SHM Shipcare Pvt. Ltd. ("SHM Global", "SHM", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors, business partners, customers, and job applicants who interact with our website shmglobal.com (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights available to you.

This Policy applies to information collected through the Website — including our product catalogue, enquiry/quotation forms, newsletter sign-up, and careers pages — and, where relevant, information collected offline in connection with your enquiries, tenders, contracts, or engagement with SHM Global.

SHM Global operates as a business-to-business ("B2B") supplier of marine safety, fire safety, shipbuilding, and ship repair products and services to shipping companies, ports, oil & gas operators, defense and paramilitary organisations, industrial and power plant operators, and related sectors. The Website does not process online payments; product enquiries and orders are handled through our sales team.

1. Information We Collect

(a) Information you provide directly: Name, company/organisation name, job title, business email address, phone number, business address, enquiry or RFQ/RFP content, vessel or project specifications relevant to a quotation, and, where you apply for a role, your resume/CV, cover letter, and related recruitment information submitted to careers@shmglobal.com.

(b) Newsletter: Your email address when you subscribe to receive newsletter.

(c) Automatically collected information: When you browse the Website, we (and our service providers) may automatically collect technical information, including your IP address, browser type and version, device information, operating system, referring/exit pages, pages viewed, and date/time stamps, typically through cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 4).

(d) Information from third parties: We may receive information about you from business partners, classification societies, freight/logistics partners, tendering authorities, or publicly available sources, where relevant to fulfilling an enquiry, contract, or tender.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal data we collect for the following purposes:

  • To process and respond to enquiries, quotation requests, tenders, and service requests, including for regulated marine safety and fire safety equipment;
  • To communicate with you regarding enquiries, orders, contracts, and support requests;
  • To send newsletters, product updates, and marketing communications where you have opted in (or as otherwise permitted by applicable law), and to allow you to opt out at any time;
  • To evaluate job applications and manage recruitment processes;
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Website, including analysing usage trends;
  • To comply with legal, regulatory, tax, customs, export-control, and maritime-safety certification obligations;
  • To carry out due diligence, vetting, or compliance checks required for defense, government, or institutional clients;
  • To detect, prevent, and address fraud, security incidents, or misuse of the Website;
  • For any other purpose disclosed to you at the time the information was collected, or with your consent.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

Where applicable data protection law requires a legal basis, we process personal data on the basis of: performance of a contract (e.g. responding to your enquiry or fulfilling an order); your consent (e.g. newsletter sign-up, non-essential cookies); our legitimate business interests (e.g. Website security, business analytics, B2B relationship management); and compliance with legal obligations (e.g. tax, customs, and export-control record-keeping).

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Website runs on the Shopify platform and uses cookies and similar technologies (such as web beacons and local storage) to operate the product catalogue and enquiry cart, remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the Website, and, where enabled, support marketing and analytics. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; however, disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the product enquiry tools.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share personal data with:

  • Service providers who support our operations, such as our Shopify platform provider, IT and hosting providers, email/newsletter service providers, and analytics providers, who process data on our behalf and under confidentiality obligations;
  • Classification societies, regulatory bodies, and certification authorities, where required for the supply of certified marine safety/fire safety equipment;
  • Professional advisers (legal, accounting, audit) where necessary;
  • Government authorities, law enforcement, tendering bodies, or regulators, where required by applicable law, export-control regulations, tender compliance, or to protect our legal rights;
  • A successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of business assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

6. International Data Transfers

As SHM Global operates across multiple locations, including India, Singapore, the UAE, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka, personal data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, including India. Where required by applicable law, we take reasonable steps to ensure such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational security measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, consistent with the requirements of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, as applicable. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, including to satisfy legal, accounting, tax, export-control, or reporting requirements, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Job application data is retained for a reasonable period for recruitment purposes and may be considered for future openings unless you request deletion.
